Am very happy with the service I received from Dr Porter. She really listens to you and nothing is too much trouble. She doesn't rush you like some doctors do and I completely trust her opinion.
Always friendly and gentle. Very thorough. I am always very happy with the care I receive
We had previously seen the nurse and Dr Hart regarding my 4 year olds enlarged tonsil. Which my wife and I believe she has had for a number of years. Both of whom prescribed antibiotics, (which we did not ask for) but trusted their decision even though my daughter was well in herself.
As the tonsil in question has still not reduced fully in size and still large we went back as advised by Dr Hart for a swab.
However Dr Porter said having checked the tonsil for spots, as long as she is well in herself not to worry. The only concern I mentioned was that my daughter tends to choke occasionally when eating.
Dr Porter advised to not proceed with seeking any further medical expertise due to the 'mortatilty rate' and excessive bleeding when removed. She also advised to avoid antibiotics due to the lesser effect if my daughter was unwell. I thought about this afterwards and realised that we didnt want to necessarily take them before but we were given the presriptions in any case by the nurse and Dr Hart. This to me now seems like an inconsistent approach between the staff. Why didnt the nurse or Dr Hart say this first of all? It made me feel like we shouldnt have given my daughter the antibiotics even though that is what we were given at the two prior appointments. Some consistency between the nurses and doctors would have been nice! We now will just 'keep an eye on' the tonsils ourselves and seek a referral if there are persistent problems.
Dr Kamilla Porter has responded to this review on 14 September, 2013 Their response Thank you very much for your feedback and I appreciate it can be frustrating receiving different advice from health professionals, however, every presentation of enlarged tonsils or other throat symptoms have to be re-assessed on each occasion. Sometimes when tonsils appear inflammed antibiotics are indeed indicated but if a child appears well and there are no signs of infection antibiotics are not necessary (and over use of antibiotics is a major health concern due to rising levels of resistance to these important medicines). Should you have any ongoing concerns about your daughter's tonsils I would be very happy to see her again and answer any questions you or your wife may have.
Friendly and helpful
I attended the surgery yesterday morning with an ongoing complaint about my swollen right leg, having been treated firstly by a nurse then another surgery doctor, who both gave me antibiotics which were not treating the problem. I was booked in to see Dr Porter who immediately contacted Southend DVT clinic with the fear that I had a blood clot in my leg. I am still awaiting follow up treatment from the hospital, but I would like to thank Dr Porter for her urgency and concern. I shall be using Dr Porter for any further future problems for myself and my wife. Thanks.
